Admissions for Master of Computer Application (MCA)-2014

Eligibility:
The candidate should fulfill the following eligibility criteria:

Passed with minimum of 50% marks in aggregate* or equivalent CGPA ( 45% in case of candidates of backward class categories and Persons with Disability belonging to Maharashtra State only) in any Bachelor’s degree awarded by any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 of minimum three years duration in any discipline recognised by the Association of Indian Universities, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India and having studied Mathematics or Statistics as one of the subjects at 10+2 level or higher level examination. (Candidates appearing for final year of qualifying examination are also eligible to appear for CET)

The MAH-MCA-CET 2014 will be ONLINE examination comprises of two papers (objective type) of 90 minutes duration viz. General Aptitude (GA) and Computer Concepts (CC). The syllabus & sample question paper are available on website and also in online brochure. Each paper has 25 questions and is expected to be completed in 90 minutes.

General Aptitude
The main objective of this paper is to assess the general aptitude of the candidate to pursue a computer applications and software profession.

Syllabus

Instructions for Registration for MAH-MCA-CET 2014 by candidate:
The questions in this paper will cover: logical reasoning, quantitative reasoning, high school mathematics, vocabulary, English comprehension and verbal ability. A good grasp of the following topics of high school mathematics (up to the 12th standard) will be useful:

  • Co-ordinate Geometry: Rectangular Cartesian co-ordinates, equations of a line, mid point, intersections etc., equations of a circle, distance formulae, pair of straight lines, parabola, ellipse and hyperbola, simple geometric transformations such as translation, rotation, scaling.

  • Differential Equations: Differential equations of first order and their solutions, linear differential equations with constant coefficients, homogenous linear differential equations.

  • Algebra: Fundamental operations in Algebra, Expansion, factorization, Quadratic equations, indices, logarithms, arithmetic, geometric and harmonic progressions, binomial theorem, permutations and combinations.

  • Trigonometry: Simple identities, trigonometric equations, properties of triangles, solution of triangles, height and distance, inverse function.

  • Probability and Statistics: Basic concepts of probability theory, Averages, Dependent and independent events, frequency distributions, and measures of dispersions, skewness and kurtosis, random variable and distribution functions, mathematical expectations, Binomial, Poisson, normal distributions, curve fitting, and principle of least squares, correlation and regression.

  • Arithmetic: Ratios and proportions, problems on time-work, distance-speed, percentage, etc.

  • Basic Set Theory and Functions: Set, relations and mappings.
  • Mensuration: areas, triangles and quadrilaterals, area and circumference of circles, volumes and surface areas of simple solids such as cubes, spheres, cylinders and cones.

Computer Concepts

  • Computer Basics: Organization of a computer, Central Processing Unit (CPU), Structure of instructions in CPU, input / output devices, computer memory, memory organization, back-up devices.

  • Data Representation: Representation of characters, integers, and fractions, binary and hexadecimal representations, Binary Arithmetic: Addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, signed arithmetic and two’s complement arithmetic, floating point representation of numbers, normalized floating point representation, Boolean algebra, truth tables, Venn diagrams.

  • Computer Architecture: Block structure of computers, communication between processor and I /O devices, interrupts.

  • Computer Language: Assembly language and high level language, Multiprogramming and time sharing operating systems, Computer Programming in C.

  • Operating System basics: Multiprogramming and timesharing operating systems.

Instructions for Registration for MAH-MCA-CET 2014 by candidate:

  1. MAH–MCA-CET 2014 shall be conducted only in the ONLINE mode in multiple sessions at all examination centers which will include multiple choice objective type questions (MCQs), using standardized equi-percentile method, will be equating scores across sessions. The question paper for the CET will be set in English only. Translations in any other languages will not be available.

  2. The Online CET would be comprised of two online papers viz. General Aptitude (GA) and Computer Concepts (CC) of 100 marks each, with composite time of 90 minutes duration. Each paper shall have 25 questions

  3. Note that MAH–MCA-CET 2014 will have negative mark system. Each correct answer will carry 4 marks. Each wrong answer will carry 1 negative mark. Unanswered questions will carry zero marks.

  4. It should be noted that no documents are required to be submitted at this stage. Candidates are advised to keep the necessary documents ready at the time of Document verification stage at ARC as per the notified schedule.

  5. Application form processing fees as stated below is to be paid at the identified Axis Bank Branches, in cash only, through Pay-in-Slip. The candidate can also do online payment of the fees by Internet Payment, Credit Card/ Debit Card payment gateway for which the service charges, as per rules, shall be applicable in addition to the application form processing fees. No other mode of payment shall be permitted.

    For Open Category Candidates from Maharashtra State, Outside Maharashtra State (OMS), J & K Migrant candidates and NRI/Foreign National/Foreign Students/ PIO/Children of Indian Workers in the Gulf Countries Candidates

    Rs. 750/-

    For Candidates of Backward Class Categories [SC, ST, VJDT NT(A), NT(B), NT(C), NT(D), OBC, SBC] & Persons with Disability Candidates belonging to Maharashtra State only.

    Rs. 550/-

  6. The Centralized Admission Process will consist of total four rounds, out of which first three rounds shall be based on computerized allotment and last round by counseling. Candidates are instructed to carefully read the Annexure-I of the Information Brochure to understand the eligibility criteria for participating in each round.

  7. Applications sent by Post/Courier etc., to ARCs/DTE office will be rejected and no communication in this regard will be made.

  8. The candidates belonging to SC, VJ/DT (NT (A)), NT (B), NT(C), NT (D), OBC and SBC categories should produce “Caste Validity Certificate” issued by Scrutiny Committee of Social Welfare Department and the Candidate belonging to ST category should submit “Tribe Validity Certificate” issued by Scrutiny Committee of Tribal Department and valid Non Creamy Layer certificate except SC,ST candidates at the time of verification of documents at ARC.

Late Registration:
Late registration facility is provided to those aspiring candidates who could not register for CET within schedule time. ONLINE mode only by paying additional late fees of Rs. 1000/- at www.dtemaharashtra.gov.in/mca2014 through net banking/ Credit Cards/ Debit Cards.

General Instructions:

  1. The Candidate has to submit and confirm the Online Application Form for CET through candidate login by himself/herself from the place convenient to him/her. It is not required to report to ARC for confirmation.

  2. Candidate can avail the facility available at ARC for confirmation of Application form. For availing the facility of ARC candidates are required to pay Rs. 50/- in cash as facilitation fee to ARC.

  3. All ARC’s shall remain open on all days excluding holidays and sundays for submission & confirmation of application form during the schedule. For ARC List refer annexure IV in the online Information brochure.

  4. The schedule displayed above is provisional and may change under unavoidable circumstances. The revised schedule, if any, will be notified on website www.dtemaharashtra.gov.in/mca2014.
